Throughout this semester, I improved my writing skills. Prior to this course, it was difficult for me to write a well-formed research paper and rhetorical analysis. It was challenging for me because I was never a “reading and writing person”; I’m more of a math guy. One of the first things I learned to do throughout this semester was finding credible resources. In the beginning, I would always use any article that caught my attention and never thought if everything I read was credible. I learned that I should always confirm that the article has an author because they sometimes don’t also to inspect the author’s resources. Additionally, I learned that I should check if the website is not biased because with a bias point a view, it just sticks to one side and opposes the other side. I learned that gov., edu., org., websites are biased and commercial websites are not.
Using peer-reviewed articles were new to me. I never used them in any of my assignments, the first time I used them was in this course. I plan to use them in future papers in other courses because they consist of a professional that read through the article and approved it. So using these type of articles would verify my arguments in my assignments. The library database was new also new for me and turned out to be a complicated thing for me to use because there are so many databases. Plus the journals that I was specifically looking for were never easy to find since there are thousands of them talking about the same subject. After repeatedly using a library database it began to be easy to manage and I plan on using it more often in future semesters. I’ve learned a lot this semester that it has left a positive impact on me. All the knowledge that I received from this course, I will use to help me through any challenges I face with writing and searching for any journal or article. I know where to go and how to find it.
